Couples Therapy

We figure it out together.

Get Out of the Cycle, Get Back to Each Other

A couple stands in a field holding hands and smiling at each other with mountains in the background.

Most couples who come to therapy aren't in crisis. They're stuck.

Maybe you're having the same fight on repeat. Maybe you've drifted and don't quite know how to find your way back. Maybe something happened that broke trust, and you're trying to figure out if — and how — things can be different.

Whatever brought you here, this is a place to actually work on it.

We see couples at every stage of a relationship — new, long-term, somewhere in the middle, or at a real crossroads. Your therapist will take time to understand both of you and what's been going on before jumping into anything. From there, you'll work on what matters most, at a pace that fits.

We meet in person at our Los Alamitos office, or by telehealth if that's easier for your schedules.

What is Couples Therapy?

The Basics

Two men sitting on a gray couch, smiling, holding hands, and looking at each other.

Couples therapy gives you and your partner a dedicated space to talk through what's hard — to actually hear each other instead of just reacting, and to find new ways of relating that work for both of you. You're not doing it alone. There's someone in the room whose only job is to help you get there.

Sessions run 75 minutes — a little longer than individual therapy, because there are two people in the room and two stories worth understanding.

If you're both willing, that's enough to start.

What We Actually Do In Session

Approaches

Our therapists draw on approaches that are built specifically for relationship work:

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) — one of the most researched couples methods out there. The focus is on breaking negative cycles and rebuilding emotional connection.

  • The Gottman Method — practical tools for communication and conflict, with an emphasis on building friendship, shared meaning, and trust that lasts.

  • Attachment-Based Therapy — helps you understand how early relationship patterns show up in your partnership, and how to work through them together.

  • We also bring a trauma-informed lens to everything we do — especially for couples navigating infidelity, loss, or other experiences that have left a mark.

  • …and more

Is Couples Therapy Right For You?

Couples therapy might be a good fit if:

  • You keep having the same fights without ever really resolving them

  • You've started to feel distant, disconnected, or like you're living parallel lives

  • There's been infidelity, dishonesty, or a breach of trust

  • You want to reconnect — emotionally, physically, or both

  • You're navigating a major life change together — kids, finances, career, loss — and it's putting a strain on things

  • You're not sure whether to stay or separate, and you want support figuring that out

And it's not only for relationships in crisis. A lot of couples come in to strengthen what's already working and get ahead of bigger problems before they start.

  • Specialized training in couples and relationship work

  • Welcoming to couples of all backgrounds and identities, including LGBTQIA+ couples — affirming, culturally sensitive care is something we take seriously

  • We see couples at every stage — newly together, long-term, married, or not

  • Our therapists don't work in isolation. There's supervision and support behind every session

  • Same-week appoinments are available

  • We'll match you with the right therapist before your first session

  • In-person sessions in Los Alamitos. Telehealth available throughout California

  • We accept insurance and offer sliding-scale fees. See our Fees and Insurance page

Why People Choose Us

A cozy living room with a brown sofa on the left and a beige armchair on the right, both adorned with decorative pillows. There is a small side table with a plant, a tissue box, and a small decorative item. On the wall, there are two pieces of artwork: a five-panel painting of a desert scene with blue sky and sand dunes on the left, and a colorful surfboard-themed poster on the right. A floor lamp with a white shade is next to the plant, and the room has a gray carpeted floor.
